The Fate of a 35 year old Swiftie

 


 

 

There is a part in Miss Americana where Taylor Swift tearfully fights for her right to speak up. The documentary draws parallels with a dire fate of another girl group that was forced to disband for being political once and highlights her struggle with her people in fighting for her voice. It was transparently obvious they were trying to play it up, and I got goosebumps. I have gone in all pink to nehru place inox to watch her eras tour film. Needless to say at this point I identified myself as a Swiiftie. Yes even as she often failed to meet these curated expectations with actions, her jet usage specifically. I explained it as the media being too focused and obsessed with dissecting her. Maybe because she is a successful woman. Or just because we live in an extremely polarized online world and all jump at judging any aspect she gave of herself. I  reflected on the bombardment of information I was given and tried to keep it simple- “I like her music, how she carries herself, and makes simple political statements that carried weight”. It was enough. Because as much weight as her word carried, I believed our elected representatives are the ones we should demand our answers from. Today her new album dropped and millions tuned in to mimic, react and listen. Opinions are divided, articles on her were probably already typed up judging by the speed at which they have dropped. However I'm forced to confront the years of silence she held on Gaza, till just before her album dropped. I cant quite explain how important it was for me that she had spoken up, that she was on the right side of humanity. Yes of course I still believe there are others before her we need to hold accountable. But she has revealed herself as just another billionaire. Greedy and disappointing.

Confrontation

  This aspect of social interaction is hard for me. My heart just starts to pound really loud when I have to tell someone I'm angry or upset. Putting aside the many phone calls that need to be made to Dr. Phil, this is actually about a specific incident. So what happened is that recently someone shouted at me for something and I after giving myself 5 motivational speeches and introspecting endlessly pushed myself to go tell that person that I did not appreciate their  behavior . Here are some observations on what happened :- 1. Whatever you planned to say, be certain it will not be what you end up saying. You think It will go from A to B in this logical sequence. What happens however is you go from A to T then D and then she/he says something in between and you think oh right “B C” *wink wink 2. Online Fantasy Worlds

Making this post because I discovered these gems quite late and they are awesome for any fantasy/fiction/supernatural buffs out there. The first is the web series Carmilla, based on the J. Sheridan Le Fanu Novella. No I haven't read it, didn't even know what it was till I started watching the series but if anyone is interested they can always see the synopsis on Wikipedia. The format of the show is narrative, the writing is brilliant and the actors don't miss a beat. There are currently 3 seasons online and soon there will be a movie!! All hail the Giant Angler fish God. #creampuffs The fandom of this series is amazing, they create beautiful artwork, comic strips and write fanfiction's, insightful headcanon's etc based on the episodes and it really helps with the withdrawal and impatience one feel's while waiting for the next one.
